A Nationwide Scandal with Solano County Ties
Three (3) industrial properties in Solano County have sold in the last nine (9) months related to the nationally publicized $1B Ponzi scheme hatched by Jeff and Paula Carpoff who operated DC Solar in Benicia, California.
DC Solar marketed solar generators mounted on trailers which could be used for emergency purposes by cell phone companies and lighting companies at sporting events. DC Solar pitched the idea of leasing the equipment back to DC Solar who would in turn rent them out to other companies. This idea never became a significant revenue source for the company, and DC Solar ended up paying other investors from new investment funds, court documents allege. Under this scheme the Carpoff’s amassed real estate, 90 cars ranging from classic Fords to Bentleys (one report), $1.8 million in cash, and other assets.
Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway, Inc lost a reported $340 million in the scandal according to a news source.
I reviewed one document filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California. It lists multiple properties seized by the Federal Government including several properties in Solano County, Martinez, Concord, Antioch, and Las Vegas; Nevada.
The three industrial properties that sold in Solano County include 2750 Maxwell Way in Fairfield (January of 2020), 4901 Park Road in Benicia (November of 2019), and 473, 475, 477 East Channel Road in Benicia (August of 2019).
